The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS, formerly the Health Care Financing Administration, or HCFA), manages one of the HIPAA-approved procedure code sets. This link identifies the HCPCS procedure codes relevant to alcohol, substance abuse and mental health treatment.

These Organizations are comprised of Data Content Committees (DCCs) and Standard Setting Organizations (SSOs). These organizations have agreed to maintain designated national standards relevant to the final "Standards for Electronic Transactions" rule according to the criteria established by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
